I just realized something. But it was one of those things that I should've realized a long time ago.
It's kind of like when you're a kid and you keep hearing a line from a movie or song incorrectly.
(For me, that line was from Star Wars. It was when Obi-Wan was helping Luke up when they first met, and he said--so I thought--"A gentleman wastes enough to be traveled lightly." Of course, that didn't make any sense to me, but Obi-Wan was a wise old man, full of wise old sayings, so I figured I'd better take his word for it. It took me many many years to realize that he said, "The Judland wastes are not to be traveled lightly." It still doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe he's talking about the Nazis.)
Anyway, what I realized is that when I write something and post it on this blog, I'm actually publishing it. Despite my professor constantly telling me just that, it never really registered with me. Maybe I should have been clued in by the "Publish Post" and "Republish Blog" buttons that I hit everyday, but those just seemed like fancy ways of saying, "make words go on page now."
I guess I fully realized this whole "publishing" thing when one of you commenters said that it would probably be a good idea to proof read this posts. I don't proof read these much, because I want them to have that raw, "straight from my head to your computer screen" feel to them. Plus I'm lazy.
But now that I realize I'm being published, I'd better step it up. I'd better go the extra mile. I'd better run my work through a simple spell checker. I'd better rewrite and revise my prose to make it as clear and concise as possible. I'd better make sure my content is top-notch.
I'd better get someone else to write these posts.
