More Wiki Wiki Wiki Wiki Wiki
I had to go write on that craptastic wiki again. And what's more (haha, what a stupid phrase: "And what is more..." like someone's too good to say "plus" or something) I have to write on it all week.
I have to talk about "audience." The first thing I said on that wiki is that I only write for about one or two people at a given time--otherwise there's too much to think about. I can guess what one or two people might enjoy reading, but anticipating that for the masses is impossible.
For instance, I watch Smokey and the Bandit tonight. That is a specific, trivial footnote interesting to only six people, so I guess I'm writing this for them (I know that breaks my "one or two people" rule, but all six of them are pretty much the same anyway.)
But you can't really get too specific either. If I kept mentioning things that only six people would understand, then the rest of you would be bored to tears, and that would be pretty serious. How many of you have actually been bored to the point of crying?
If you have, that's bordering on depression, homes, and I would consider seeing someone about that.
So I guess the trick is to write about something that everyone has a chance to understand, but write in a way that one or two people you know might like.
That way it has a chance to be interesting.
Or else, as I said in that wiki post, if you try to write for everyone, you'll end up writing for no one.
Then I smacked myself in the face, because that sounded like a quote from some awful movie.
Or, I guess, a good movie.
