The Trilogy comes to DVD. Horray?
As promised, I am now going to give you my take on the original Star Wars Trilogy coming to DVD.
Huh.
I used to have strong feelings regarding this subject, and I was hoping to conjure them up for this post. But as I write this, I find myself alarmingly indifferent.
Sure, I'm annoyed that George Lucas has decided to only release his inferior "special editions" to DVD, but I am no longer bordering on furious, like I was just a few short months ago. Maybe I'm learning that it's not really a big deal.
Anyway, here is a list of changes from the VHS special edition release to the current one. Most of the changes appear, once again, to be for the worse--intended only to provide continuity with the sub-par prequels. Others attempt to “fix” some of the most despised moments from the first release of the special edition (such as the infamous "Greedo shoots first" decision). But given the previous results of “fixing” the trilogy, I’m not holding my breath for those changes either.
I'm still not even sure if I'm going to buy the DVD set. Maybe I'll watch the documentaries and behind the scenes footage if a friend picks it up, but otherwise, I may just be content in wearing out my VHS copies into oblivion.
How did it come to this?
